Battle Angel Alita “Last Order”

Globally many people love Manga, the Japanese comics and it includes my family. I’ve lived in the country beside of Japan so I don’t think it is weird, also Anime and Manga have different strong charming to compare with US comics and animation. I knew Battle Angel is famous and the story mood is quite serious and the story represents about the pain of war. Many cyborg style manga of 20th century describe the war and have a negative view of next century. So I though Battle Angel also have same contents and I didn’t read it. Because I’m already read Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, The Galaxy Express 999. So it was good chance to read. I really wondered why 20th centuries Japan made a lot of dystopia work. I heard that is the scar from II World war. They felt destroy of daily, family, country, people’s hope and they express the feelings through artistic work. “The Last Order” is the last series of Battle Angel, I couldn’t understand every content because I didn’t see every series but the detail of depiction was so amazing and I feel obsessive things from the drawing. Include Akira, is it also comes from war’s scar? I don’t know. I feel need to read more when I want.

Lit. of Comics Week 7/ Maus

 I read once this book when I was in high school with watching film named “The boy in the striped pajamas”,” Life is beautiful” and book named “The Diary of Anne Frank”. I am sure most of the people on earth know about the Holocaust. As one of them, I am educated about Nazi too. “Maus” is written by Art Spiegelman but the main character is his parents and another family who suffered from Nazi. Before I start, I really cared about choosing a word and I don’t want to describe this tragic by the wrong way so I hope your patient and understand if I do a mistake. “Maus” is cross directed by 2 types of time. Past and Present. And the story is separated 2 parts. In the first story, Vladek avoids Nazi at Poland with his family, and in the second part, he goes through Auschwitz. For an escape from Nazi, he offers everything he had and in the cold jail, he did everything that he can do for surviving. Lit. of Comics, Week1 / The Arrival by Shaun Tan

“The Arrived by Shaun Tan” is a story about one man who leaves to a city for his family. It is famous as unique visual and impresses storytelling, however, surprisingly Characters of this book never use a word. As I search for this work, I recalled film work like Tom and Jerry, Charlie Chaplin and Mickey Mouse. Even those works do not use word, the audience can know what they want and feel. But how people can understand the story without a word? I think it because of Body language communication. When we talk with someone, “word” is not the only way for communication. We read by his facial expression, acting, and gestures. For example, when we read the condition of babies and animals, we know what they want by body act. In the same way, this book makes an easy way for reading communication between characters by expressing like a storyboard. Personally, I have optimistic view of using stereotype but if it affects harmful to specific people, I strongly think it has to be changed. There are many meaning about “Stereotype”, for example like a Specific view of general people, an Average image of something or Bias.
