Lit. of Comics Week3 / Comics strip


When I was a child, I loved comic strip on father’s newspaper. Well now he not read news by paper and I read comics on the internet but comic strip is a lovely memory of my childhood. I am never read American’s comic strip and there was a bunch of lists so I was little excited. I choose little Nemo series and it is a story about a dream of a little boy. A work of art was so excellent and traditional style of comics looks so beautiful. Most I impressed was he is so cute than other comics’ character! The ridiculous contents of his dream remind my imagination of childhood. For example, having a giant friend and meet with a mermaid, walking bed or traveling with strange man…. However, every single his dream is ended by bad happening and he wakes up with frighten and shout. I hope his mental health is good. Little Nemo series is quite long and old. I think many people love him and this is why Nemo was printed on Newspaper while a long time. Also, I could read people’s thinking of the 1980s from the contents and it was interesting.

Lit. of Comics Week 13 / the future of comics

Week13: Freak angels In my country, most of the comic’s industry moves with webcomics market as a center because it is so popular among young people. We have a bunch of huge company and author for only webcomics. Sometimes it becomes movie or drama or musical. People access webcomics easier than book comics by their phone or laptop and as people know, it is more economical than paper and pen. I’m sure this is one of great asset and definitely, webcomic market has strong potential. But the flaw is most of comics are weekly serial comics so it was hard to know every story of “Freak Angels”. This comic is started in 2008, so, unfortunately, I couldn’t read all. But the Apocalyptic style was good also I felt steampunk style. The story is about some people who help society with their special abilities like telepathy, pyrokinesis. People called them “Freakangels”. The background is can be depressing but the contents are really interesting and give some subject to think about “Human”.

Lit. of Comics, Week1 / The Arrival by Shaun Tan

“The Arrived by Shaun Tan” is a story about one man who leaves to a city for his family. It is famous as unique visual and impresses storytelling, however, surprisingly Characters of this book never use a word. As I search for this work, I recalled film work like Tom and Jerry, Charlie Chaplin and Mickey Mouse. Even those works do not use word, the audience can know what they want and feel. But how people can understand the story without a word? I think it because of Body language communication. When we talk with someone, “word” is not the only way for communication. We read by his facial expression, acting, and gestures. For example, when we read the condition of babies and animals, we know what they want by body act. In the same way, this book makes an easy way for reading communication between characters by expressing like a storyboard. Lit. of Comics Week 4 / Comic book

 I am really a fan of DC comics it does not become a long time and I did not read old issues but I don’t think all fans read every comic book. Because it re-launched regularly and the history of DC is more than 80 years. Every artists and writers’ explanation about each character are different and the story is very different every series. So if someone wants to start DC or Marvel comics, I want to recommend an easy way that just read and love by your interesting.  I like Trinity of justice league so I choose Superman for the first read. What I was surprising is he couldn’t fly at first series! He just can run fast. Personally, I can’t understand so why he has a cape. And he was wilder than now day’s Superman. He just beat a bad people without mercy. It is quite different with a superman what I loved but it was funny.
