“The Arrived by Shaun Tan” is a story about one man who leaves to a city for his family. It is famous as unique visual and impresses storytelling, however, surprisingly Characters of this book never use a word. As I search for this work, I recalled film work like Tom and Jerry, Charlie Chaplin and Mickey Mouse. Even those works do not use word, the audience can know what they want and feel. But how people can understand the story without a word? I think it because of Body language communication. When we talk with someone, “word” is not the only way for communication. We read by his facial expression, acting, and gestures. For example, when we read the condition of babies and animals, we know what they want by body act. In the same way, this book makes an easy way for reading communication between characters by expressing like a storyboard.
