Class 2017 Oct. 12 / Underground comics (week 6)

O.K comics This comic is a collection of short stories and every main character are a man. I don't know detailed information but it just seems like normal comics except several comics about social problems. Some of the stories are focused on characters depress emotion and some of them were story about happening like just average comics. Most impressed stories were "SIL-INDER" and this is about unbalanced and unfair rules of social rank. Characters look like a can but their shape is different depending on their level. A body looks like just a can means high-level citizen and a flatter body means a low level citizen of society. Because the top of cans always steps on their head and low level can always be pressed down by high level. Low-level cans often fight each other and are in a mad. When they have riot about their disadvantage, high-level cans broadcast an apology for try to make them calm down and relax because they want low-level cans to keep their work. But

Lit. of Comics Week 5 / A life force and Blankets

First of all, talk about a similarity between two works. Usually, they focused on one character’s emotion and behaviors and it expressed by character’s line and an inner monologue. So the stream of a frame is quite flexible also it has various a view of perspective. Especially in “Blankets”, the main man character is an introspective and delicate person. For express his think and emotion, Thompson often uses an inner monologue and an abstract image directing. When he feels frightened or depressed, I could see the situation with his view by dark colors and offensive streams. “A life force” is not more dramatic than “Blanket”, but by a perspective view and shadow directing, I could read they’re emotion effectively. As compared with before, it not looks an arrange of acting like animation. If old works focused on character’s acting, Thompson and Eisner emphasis character’s inner. From the character’s face and various effects, we can read characters’ information enough and what is going on

Lit. of Comics Week 4 / Comic book

I am really a fan of DC comics it does not become a long time and I did not read old issues but I don’t think all fans read every comic book. Because it re-launched regularly and the history of DC is more than 80 years. Every artists and writers’ explanation about each character are different and the story is very different every series. So if someone wants to start DC or Marvel comics, I want to recommend an easy way that just read and love by your interesting.  I like Trinity of justice league so I choose Superman for the first read. What I was surprising is he couldn’t fly at first series! He just can run fast. Personally, I can’t understand so why he has a cape. And he was wilder than now day’s Superman. He just beat a bad people without mercy. It is quite different with a superman what I loved but it was funny. The second was Batman, but he was not big different with now day’s Batman also Joker and Robin too. Recently I couldn’t read DC comics at all because I was so busy so I

Lit. of Comics Week3 / Comics strip

When I was a child, I loved comic strip on father’s newspaper. Well now he not read news by paper and I read comics on the internet but comic strip is a lovely memory of my childhood. I am never read American’s comic strip and there was a bunch of lists so I was little excited. I choose little Nemo series and it is a story about a dream of a little boy. A work of art was so excellent and traditional style of comics looks so beautiful. Most I impressed was he is so cute than other comics’ character! The ridiculous contents of his dream remind my imagination of childhood. For example, having a giant friend and meet with a mermaid, walking bed or traveling with strange man…. However, every single his dream is ended by bad happening and he wakes up with frighten and shout. I hope his mental health is good. Little Nemo series is quite long and old. I think many people love him and this is why Nemo was printed on Newspaper while a long time. Also, I could read people’s t

Lit. of Comics, Week 2/ Understanding comics

Sometimes I'm drawing a piece of a short comics for just fun with my friends. This is like a little game. We set the subject and make a list of turn randomly and then just drawing it. There is no guideline of a story or any rules about directing, so at first, it was not easy because we did not have any information about making comics. I’m in busy now so I don’t do it recently but still, I want to know more about comic’s rule.   “Understanding Comics” describe about how comics do directing for control their story and how people accept about comics’ stream and art style. After read this book I though maybe this is what I was hope. One thing I really impressed was if you more make character simple, the more people empathize with the story. We see ourselves in everything even if a car or puzzles, because human are a self- centered race. For example, as woman, if I see some character looks like Steve Jobs, I must think it is not me. But if the character looks like just a
